For SFP+

Find out about how our SFP+ works.

A: SFP+ is a compact, hot-pluggable transceiver designed for telecommunications and data communications. It supports high-speed data rates of up to 10Gbps.

ViewQwest provide the Huawei OptiXstar S800E - S800EXGS01, a miniature Optical Network Unit (ONU). This unit can be inserted into the SFP+ port of routers or network devices to enable 10-Gigabit-capable Symmetric Passive Optical Network (XGS-PON) access, suitable for high-definition video transmission or high-performance networking applications.

A: Yes, SFP+ transceivers can connect directly to a fibre point (such as NLT Optical Termination Point) using the appropriate fibre optic cables.

A: Typically, if you're connecting SFP+ directly to a fiber point, you do not need a modem. The SFP+ transceiver itself acts as the interface for data transmission.

A: While SFP+ is more commonly used in enterprise settings, it can be used in high-performance home networking setups, especially if your equipment supports it and you have a suitable fiber connection.

A: Check the specifications of your switches, routers, or network interface cards (NICs) to confirm they have SFP+ ports. Look for labels or documentation that indicate SFP+ compatibility.

A: The Huawei OptiXstar S800E is compatible with many routers and network devices that support GPON or XGSPON technology. However, it's essential to verify compatibility with your specific equipment.

A: The devices offered by ViewQwest that support the Huawei OptiXstar S800E include the Ubiquiti Dream Machine SE, ASUS RT-AX89X and Alta Lab Route10.

A: If you select a Home Broadband plan with an SFP+ module bundle, you will not receive an ONR or ONT. The SFP+ module will function as the modem.

A: For Home Broadband with SFP+ bundle, we provide free delivery and the necessary cables. Customers will need to perform a self-installation of the device to connect to the NLT fiber point.

A: The upgrade is available to both new and existing ViewQwest XGSPON Broadband customers on eligible plans (3Gbps, 5Gbps, or 10Gbps).

A: New customers can sign up for SFP+ Bundles through the ViewQwest Broadband Plans page

A: Recontract-eligible customers can upgrade via the ViewQwest Customer Portal.

A: Yes, if you’re still within your contract period or have opted not to renew it, you can upgrade to the SFP+ Bundle through the ViewQwest eStore.

There is a one-time, non-refundable equipment fee of $99 for the SFP+ module. This fee covers the provision of the device but does not imply ownership.

A: No, your monthly subscription fee will remain the same after upgrading to the SFP+ ONU.

A: Yes, if you're using a standard modem such as an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) or Optical Network Router (ONR), you can upgrade to an SFP+ ONU without needing to renew or extend your contract. Once you receive the SFP+ ONU, you are required to return your existing ONT or ONR device to ViewQwest.

A:

  • The SFP+ ONU is classified as Customer Premise Equipment (CPE), similar to your current modem.
  • You must return your existing ONT or ONR device upon receiving the SFP+ ONU.
  • The SFP+ ONU must be returned if the service is terminated or the equipment is replaced.
  • Failure to return the device may result in additional charges in accordance with our Equipment Return Policy.

A: Once you have received your SFP+ ONU, please contact ViewQwest Customer Service to register and activate the device for use with your broadband service.
